What is the internet doing to you? That and many other questions will be on the minds of researchers at the new Oxford Internet Institute, a research center dedicated to studying the social consequences of the internet. There is no such thing as a neutral introduction of technology; something is always gained and lost. New communications technologies always introduce new modes and methods of discourse–blogs, for example. New technologies also introduce new ways of thinking. We should never assume that all of these changes are positive.
The Rhetorica Network
I offer commentary on the rhetoric of the American conversation, especially as it unfolds in documentary film, the news media, and politics. Check out my feeds on Twitter and Instagram. Also be sure to see my work at Carbon Trace Productions, a non-profit documentary film studio in Springfield, Missouri. I am a Professor of Media & Journalism at Missouri State University. I teach classes in mobile journalism and documentary filmmaking.
