It’s nice to have 30 minutes of network air time for good public relations. Al Gore appeared on ABC’s “20/20” tonight in an interview with Barbara Walters–the female Larry King. Basically, Gore spent the time swatting Walters’ softballs out of the park. Mostly, the interview consisted of a lot of feel-good video and very little political substance. This was good TV for his current book tour and, more than likely, the launch of a 2004 campaign. As expected, Gore dodged the few questions that might have shed some light on his intentions. And his answers to questions concerning Bill Clinton seemed less than genuine. No matter. The purpose of this little bit of entertainment was to introduce a relaxed-and-ready Al Gore. Mission accomplished.
