Howard Kurtz offers two round-ups this morning. From the print edition of The Washington Post, he considers the press’ role in the Lott affair. Some of this material came from his CNN show Reliable Sources. His web column rounds-up the coverage of Al Gore’s decision not to run for President.
I’m still wondering what message Gore was trying to send by hosting Saturday Night Live knowing he was not a candidate, while the rest of America tuned in on the assumption that he was a candidate. The shift in context changes what we saw on Saturday. The Hardball sketch and the West Wing sketch in particular take on new meaning. I’m still trying to decide what that meaning is or could possibly be. Stay tuned.
UPDATE (1:08 p.m.): MediaMinded has an interesting take on the press’ slow reaction to the Lott situation.
