The Daily Howler has a different take on the criticism of the rhetoric of the “regular person.” Specifically, Bob Somerby says that the very questions I found interesting from Dan Balz’ article are instead “silly” and puerile.”
I don’t think any question of definition in politics is silly or puerile. Yes, we may certainly begin answering the question ‘Who is and is not a regular person’ with common-sense assumptions. The problem, however, is that common sense doesn’t always win in the political battle of definitions.
Otherwise, Somerby’s post today is quite interesting in regard to bias in the news media.
